College Survival

College can be a difficult transition. You've left your friends and family behind and are trying to navigate the choppy waters of college life. Whether you've moved 10 minutes away or 10 hours, college can throw you into a totally new world you're not used to. College can be scary but it can also be great so...

Here are my top seven tips to make the best out of your experience:

Write everything. Good memory? Write it down. Bad memory? Write it down. Later on down the road you can look back at all the great times and and reflect on the bad times and see how far you've come and what you've worked for.

Date an artist you will discover things about the world and about yourself that you could have never imagined.

Go to a party alone which can seem like the scariest and worst idea possible but putting yourself out there and not allowing yourself to shut off the world and retreat to your dorm will help you down the road. Who knows, you might meet your college bestie or the love of your life. You will never know, until you try.

Find a coffee spot and i'm not talking Starbucks (although, that is my kryptonite), find a coffee house that gives you the best feeling when you walk inside. Find a comfy spot with a WiFi connection and make your way there as a safety place for when you need to study in silence or for when you need a calming spot to think.

Have a guilty pleasure that brings you joy for when you are feeling down or missing home. Mine is the HBO show Girls because no matter what it always brings me happiness and makes me feel like it is all going to be okay. Laughter can be so comforting when you are having a rough day and make you forget what got you down.

Be selfish when it comes to your career. Don't settle for anything less than what you want. It's okay to be picky, now is the time to really hone in on a career that is going to make you happy. Money isn't everything but happiness sure is.

Don't be afraid to be you the most cliche thing I have ever said, but it's true. Little quirks you find troublesome about yourself, someone else is going to love and you're going to find out that everyone has a little quirkiness to them. It is better to stand apart from the crowd than to follow suit. Overall, you will be a happier person if you stick to your true self.
